About Me

Work

Oct 2020 to present: I am currently a software engineer at Mango Solutions where we are building a new generation data science management and development platform. I work with React, NestJS, SQL, Kubernetes, TypeScript and WebSockets.

Sept 2019 to Oct 2020: Software engineer at Bravissimo, UK, where I built internal business apps across a diverse tech stack including AngularJS and Angular 2+, NodeJS, .net and SQL Server.

Prior to this I ran my own company for 8 years manufacturing and selling a central heating product called the Radfan where I:

raised over £750K of venture capital investment
established a UK factory and oversaw a full production line and international supply chain
made and sold over 75,000 units
grew to an annual turnover of over £600K
developed a stock management and production system that I turned into a successful iOS App

Education

Before this I did a PhD in Electrical Engineering where I:

researched energy harvesting methods for sensor nodes placed in hostile environments like volcanoes, engines and space
published 7 research papers and submitted my thesis in less than 3 years

My bachelors was also in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Newcastle University, UK.

Prior to that I was lucky enough to attend Welbeck College for A-Levels which is a training ground for potential technical Army Officers.

Interests

Mountain Biking - so much so that I converted an extra long wheel base high top Ford Transit into a mountain biking adventure camper van to make trips away more comfortable and easier.

CrossFit - I have converted the garage into a home gym and set up like a small CrossFit Box.

DIY - I have a knack for all things practical so DIY is an involuntary hobby since I can do the work to a good standard and not have to pay builders, I really hate laying patios and tiles though.
